The Board of Directors of the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists (SIDP) is

pleased to announce the availability of funding for an Antimicrobial Stewardship/ Infectious Diseases Pharmacotherapy Residency or Fellowship for the period of July 2015 through June 2016. SIDP will provide funding to support resident/fellow salaries for one year plus fringe benefits and will include $1,500 travel support to attend the annual SIDP meeting (total grant not to exceed $57,000). Proposals must be submitted no later than 5 PM P.D.T. on June 1, 2015.  SIDP Residency RFP 2015-16 final.pdf

Young scientists (age 35 years and under) can apply for up to 4 individual grants and successful applicants will be fully funded to attend ICAAC / ICC, San Diego, 17-21 September 2015.

The deadline for applications is 21^st May 2015.  The grants will be covering registration, airfare and accommodation to all successful applicants.

Registration has opened for the 55th annual Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy (ICAAC) that will be held in San Diego, California from September 18-21, 2015. In addition, SIDP will be holding their annual meeting on Thursday, September 17th. To register for ICAAC, go to http://www.icaac.org. This 2 1/2 day course focuses on new developments and issues related to the use of vaccines. Expert faculty will provide the latest information on both current and prospective vaccines, updated recommendations for vaccinations across the lifespan, and innovative and practical strategies for ensuring timely and appropriate vaccination. The course is specifically designed for physicians (family, infectious disease specialists, internists, and pediatricians), nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, public health professionals, vaccine program administrators, and other healthcare professionals interested in clinical aspects of vaccine delivery.

This activity has been jointly-planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education by the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases and Emory University School of Medicine. The National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. NFID designates this live activity for a maximum of 19.75 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) and Continuing Pharmacy Education (CPE) credits will also be available.

SIDP is co-organizing an antimicrobial stewardship workshop on Thursday, May 14th from 9am to noon at the Spring SHEA Conference. The conference will be held in Orlando, Florida from May 14-17,2015. The  focus is "science guiding prevention" and has an interprofessional focus on stewardship, as well as implementation science and prevention across the range of healthcare facilities, including hospitals based, community based, and long term care settings.

On February 25, 2015, The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Avycaz (ceftazidime-avibactam) to treat adults with complicated intra-abdominal infections (cIAI), in combination with metronidazole, and complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI), including kidney infections (pyelonephritis), who have limited or no alternative treatment options.Avycazis a fixed-combination drug containing ceftazidime and avibactam, a new beta-lactamase inhibitor.

An advisory committee to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) voted unanimously to recommend isavuconazonium (ISA) (Cresemba, Astellas Pharma, Inc) for the treatment of adults with invasive aspergillosis (IA) and voted (8 yes, 2 no, 1 abstain) to recommend the drug for the treatment of adults with invasive mucormycosis (IM).http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/838620
