Advocate Children’s Hospital – Oak Lawn in Chicago is hiring for a pediatric ID clinical pharmacy specialist.  This is an exciting clinical pharmacy specialist opportunity for any pharmacist with infectious diseases and/or advanced pediatric pharmacy practice experience, including: 

  • daily handshake antimicrobial stewardship rounds with the infectious diseases physician team,
  • development of system pediatric infectious diseases and antimicrobial stewardship policy,
  • ambulatory care of pediatric cystic fibrosis patients as part of a multidisciplinary care team,
  • resident precepting, and
  • an opportunity to serve as the residency program coordinator of the PGY2 ID residency program at Christ Medical Center.

Description:

The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, Pediatric Infectious Diseases performs a variety of clinical and administrative support services to optimize antimicrobial use and antimicrobial use outcomes for Advocate Health patients.  Serving as liaison between the pediatric infectious diseases physician service line and the pharmacy department the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, Pediatric Infectious Diseases provides antimicrobial use oversight through routine culture-based and medication-based surveillance as well as handshake stewardship.  In this role the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, Pediatric Infectious Diseases is expected to provide clinical infectious diseases pharmacotherapy expertise and support to both the medical and pharmacy staff across Advocate Health. 

Based at Advocate Children’s Hospital – Oak Lawn (ACH-OL) the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, Pediatric Infectious Diseases performs routine surveillance for patients at ACH-OL and other Advocate sites in Illinois while regularly precepting pharmacy residents.  Additionally, the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, Pediatric Infectious Diseases will serve as the residency program coordinator for the ASHP accredited PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency at Advocate Christ Medical Center (n=1 resident).  As a core member of the Advocate Antimicrobial Stewardship Team the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, Pediatric Infectious Diseases works with other Advocate Health infectious diseases pharmacists and a multidisciplinary group of physicians and non-physician team members to develop and enforce antimicrobial use policy for the entire health-system.

The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, Infectious Diseases would be joining a large team of infectious diseases pharmacists across Advocate Health.  While hours would be approximately 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday, the position is salaried and the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, Pediatric Infectious Diseases is expected to provide infectious diseases pharmacotherapy support to pharmacists and providers after-hours and on weekends as needed.

Licenses & Certifications

Pharmacist license issued by the state of Illinois.

Degrees

Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy.

Required Functional Experience

  • Typically requires 3-5 years of experience in infectious diseases and antimicrobial stewardship.
  • Specialty certification in infectious diseases (BCPS, AQ-ID or BCIDP) and/or specialty certification in pediatrics (BCPPS)
  • ASHP accredited PGY2 residency in infectious diseases or pediatrics strongly preferred
