How to Prepare a Competitive Grant Proposal: 10 Tips for Success

Julie Dumond, PharmD, MS
Dr. Dumond is an associate professor in the Division of Pharmacotherapy and Experimental Therapeutics. Her primary research interest is the pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics of antiretrovirals for HIV treatment and prevention. Dr. Dumond has received NIH funding including K23, R21, and R01 and is also involved with NIH-sponsored clinical trial networks such as the HVTN/HPTN.

Melissa Johnson, PharmD
Associate Professor in Medicine, Duke University.  She is a member of the Duke Center for Antimicrobial Stewardship and Infection Prevention as well as the Duke University Mycology Research Unit. Infections in the immunocompromised host, novel antimicrobial clinical trials, and antimicrobial stewardship have been her primary research interests. Dr. Johnson has received funding as a principal investigator and co-investigator from federal and non-federal sources including NIH (K23, R21, and U01 grants), Centers for Disease Control, Food & Drug Administration, and Health Research Services Administration. CDC, HRSA. She was also an awardee of the NIH/NIAID Clinical Research Loan Repayment Program.

Jessina McGregor, PhD
Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice, Oregon State University. Dr. McGregor’s research interests include antibiotic utilization, infectious diseases, medical informatics, epidemiologic methods, and risk adjustment.Dr. McGregor has R01 funding from AHRQ and VA merit award funding. She has also received CDC funding and state-level funding

Warren Rose, PharmD, MS
Warren Rose is a faculty member in the School of Pharmacy, Pharmacy Practice Division at the University of Wisconsin.  He also has an adjunct affiliate faculty appointment in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases. Dr. Rose's translational research interests antimicrobial pharmacology, resistance, and host-pathogen interactions. Dr. Rose has received R01-level funding from the NIH.

Katie Suda, MS, PharmD
Professor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Associate Director of the Center for Pharmaceutical Policy and Prescribing, and a Research Health Scientist and Associate Director of Clinical Therapeutics with the VA Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion. Dr. Suda has received funding from federal and non-federal sources and currently manages a research portfolio of over $15 million with R01, U-level and VA Merit awards as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Food and Drug Administration, National Institutes of Health, and the Veterans Health Administration
