Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Why does anti-racism and racial diversity in healthcare matter?

Presented on March 27, 2023 by Sebastian Hamilton, PharmD, MBA, RPh and Jenna Chandler-Ward, MEd

In February during Black History Month, the DEI committee hosted a virtual celebration entitled: “Why does Anti-Racism and Racial Diversity in Healthcare Matter?”.

We were privileged to have the Society President, Melissa Johnson PharmD, provide opening remarks. Sebastian Hamilton, PharmD, MBA, RPh - Chief Pharmacy Officer, Boston Medical Center, and Jenna Chandler Ward – M. Ed - Author of the recently published book, Learning and Teaching While White, both provided presentations. Dr. Hamilton’s talk was entitled, “The Importance of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Leadership Within Pharmacy.” Jenna Chandler-Ward’s talk was entitled, “What Does it Mean to Be a White Ally”.

On behalf of SIDP, we would like to express our appreciation to our speakers for sharing their expertise and educating our membership on these critically important topics.
