One of the 2025 SIDP educational grants supported an innovative public awareness initiative to help communities in Ethiopia learn about antimicrobial stewardship through the power of community radio and digital storytelling. Led by SIDP member, Hailu Chare Koyra, B.Pharm, MTh, MSc, Assistant Professor and PhD fellow in infectious diseases, the "Voices of Vigilance: Community Radio" initiative uses engaging radio dramas, expert interviews, community discussions, and live question-and-answer sessions to promote the rational use of antimicrobials and increase public awareness of antimicrobial resistance. Broadcast in both English and Afaan Oromoo, the series encourages individuals, families, healthcare professionals, and community leaders to work together to protect the effectiveness of life-saving antimicrobials. By making important health information accessible through local radio, digital platforms, and mobile applications, Voices of Vigilance empowers communities to make informed decisions, supports antimicrobial stewardship, and reinforces the message that responsible antimicrobial use leads to better health for all. |
