WakeMed Health & Hospitals - Infectious Diseases Clinical Pharmacy Specialist

The Infectious Diseases Clinical Pharmacy Specialist is responsible for leading and developing the antibiotic stewardship program for the WakeMed Health & Hospitals health system. The primary goal of the program is to ensure the optimal use of antimicrobial agents at WakeMed Health & Hospitals while decreasing the opportunity for antimicrobial resistance and avoiding the loss of current antimicrobial drug classes. Other program goals include ensuring program compliance with national guidelines and accreditation standards,  report and monitor ongoing anti-infective utilization; identifying opportunities for improvement regarding anti-infective use; education of prescribers (including pharmacists, nurses and ancillary healthcare providers) in therapeutically efficacious and cost- effective therapy; decreasing adverse reactions and predisposition to secondary infections; improving patient care by shortening length of stay, preventing ADR and secondary infections; promoting conversion of intravenous therapy to oral antibiotics; consolidating antimicrobial formulary; controlling antimicrobial costs.

 

The infectious diseases clinical pharmacy specialist position requires a close and effective working relationship with other departments in the health system as well as with the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and Wake County Health Department HIV Clinic. They are responsible for precepting pharmacy residents and students for the infectious diseases rotation, HIV transitions of care rotation, and longitudinal projects. They also will serve as a faculty liaison for the pharmacy students assigned to the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy Wake Region.

 

 Required Qualifications:

  • Post graduate year 1 [PGY1] in Pharmacy Practice
  • Post graduate year 2 [PGY2] in Infectious Diseases or equivalent clinical experience
  • BS Pharmacy; or Doctor of Pharmacy Degree (Pharm D)
