Job Title: Specialty Practice Pharmacist

Specialty/focus of the position: Infectious Diseases, Hematology/Oncology
Position Description: The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital is recruiting a highly motivated specialty practice pharmacist to provide infectious disease expertise for the hematology/oncology patient population. The specialty practice pharmacist will primarily focus on the immunocompromised patient population and will spend four months on antimicrobial stewardship or rounding with any of five other inpatient infectious diseases consult services. The other consult services care for diverse patient populations including internal medicine (medical and surgical), critical care (medical, surgical, and neuro), cardiovascular, and solid organ transplant (heart, lung, liver, kidney, and kidney-pancreas). In addition, the specialty practice pharmacist is an integral member of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program consisting of ID physicians, pharmacists, microbiologists, infection preventionists, epidemiologists, nurses, veterinary professionals, and a data manager.
The specialty practice pharmacist is charged with ensuring appropriate medication therapy, implementing clinical protocols and guidelines, monitoring relevant medication therapy, and enhancing the quality and delivery of evidence-based medicine. Longitudinal responsibilities include precepting and multidisciplinary education, medication safety responsibilities, committee involvement, and participation in clinical research and quality improvement initiatives.
Teaching opportunities will include precepting PharmD candidates from The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy, pharmacy residents (both PGY1 and PGY2), didactic lectures at The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy, and providing continuing education for pharmacists, nurses and physicians.
Required or Desired Credentials: Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited pharmacy school, eligible for licensure in the State of Ohio, PGY-1 residency training, and PGY-2 specialty residency in Infectious Diseases preferred, or equivalent training or experience in this area of expertise.
