In celebration of 30 years of SIDP, the Publications and Podcasts committee has introduced a recurring column in the newsletters called “Celebrating 30 Years of SIDP” written by SIDP founding members/past presidents including John Bosso, Peggy Carver, and Michael Dudley, and Pubs and Pods Vice-chair Rachel Britt. Each edition of the newsletter explores a different topic: a history of ID pharmacy, a history of SIDP, the present of SIDP, and the future of SIDP.

The July 2021 edition of the SIDP Newsletter will celebrate the 30 years of SIDP by reflecting on the current state of SIDP, and will be available to SIDP members on the Newsletters page on July 23, 2021. In addition, highlights from all four columns were published as the inaugural Bench to Bedside with SIDP column on ContagionLive.

In celebration of 30 years of SIDP, the Inter-Organizational and Engagement Committee would like to recognize the impact SIDP collaborations with other organizations and partners have had on the field of infectious diseases since the beginning of our organization.  At the link below, you will find a list of 30 key collaborative projects supported by SIDP over the past 30 years. There were far too many to recognize all of the excellent collaborations, but you can explore some of the key highlights below!

30 SIDP Collaborations to Celebrate 30 Years of SIDP

For this week’s edition, we are taking a moment to recognize the SIDP Website Committee for their year-long contributions in supporting the 30 Years of SIDP campaign and other organization-wide communication efforts. The SIDP Website Committee is led by Ryan Crass as Chair, Kendall Tucker as Vice-Chair, Eric Wenzler as Past Chair, and Julie Ann Justo as Board Liaison. The committee has been tasked with creation of the 30 years of SIDP webpage and uploading weekly blog posts reflecting the activities of each SIDP committee, in addition to their other ongoing responsibilities.

The SIDP website is a wonderful resource for the SIDP members and the public. It now has over 70,000 users and over 265,000 pageviews annually. It draws audiences from around the globe and helps support the mission of SIDP to ADVANCE infectious diseases pharmacy and LEAD antimicrobial stewardship to OPTIMIZE the care of patients with infections.

Check out the new toolkit resources on the website including: Antimicrobial Stewardship Advocacy Toolkit, Vancomycin AUC Toolkit, and COVID-19 Monoclonal Antibody Toolkit (coming very soon)!

Please join us in giving a special thanks to the SIDP Website Committee and its members for all of their hard work!

The Guideline Committee invites you to celebrate 30 years of advancing the practice and inclusion of ID pharmacists on Infectious Diseases guidelines. SIDP is honored to have several of our members serve as authors and panelist on over 20+ guidelines, representing the involvement of over 30 SIDP members during the last 30 years. Many of those members interviewed for the 30 years of SIDP celebration have helped to pave the way and establish the need for ID pharmacist’s representation on guideline panels. In addition, there have been over 8 guidelines which have been reviewed and endorsed by SIDP, with many more in the pipeline, both nationally and internationally.

We invite you to celebrate the impact ID Pharmacists have had on these guidelines and keep an eye out on social media for highlights from some of those SIDP members who have served on these guideline panels.

In celebration of 30 years of SIDP, the BCIDP Recertification Committee is taking us back to the 1990s and the initial publication of the Hartford Nomogram by SIDP member Dr. David Nicolau, which kicked off a paradigm shift in how we dose aminoglycosides (article can be downloaded below). But do aminoglycosides still have a role in the treatment of gram negative infections today?

SIDP member Dr. Samantha Steiger takes us through the “then and now” of aminoglycoside pharmacokinetics and therapeutics in the latest release of the SIDP Journal Club Series, available starting June 21st for BCIDP and ACPE recertification credit.

The article can be downloaded here and the journal club activity will be up after 12:00PM EDT on June 21, 2021 on the BCIDP re-certification page.

In celebration of 30 years of SIDP, the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Task Force would like to recognize the steps SIDP has taken in this 30th year, to break down barriers regarding structural racism, inequities, and inclusion. Please join us in celebrating and recognizing the work of SIDP, the DEI Task Force, and the positive direction we are headed as an organization by completing the Breaking Barriers Crossword Puzzle!

This activity is just for fun – and hopefully a great way to learn a little more about the history of SIDP.
