As the 30 years in SIDP celebration comes to a close, it’s amazing to reflect on the evolution this organization has experienced since its inception in 1991. From the shear growth in membership, ID residency programs, and committees, all the way to the development of the SIDP podcast, we have seen change.

One of the biggest changes was seen in late 2019 with the SARS-CoV-2 global pandemic. Leaders and members of SIDP stepped up during this time, not only in their own clinical practice, but again as a dependable infectious diseases resource for the masses. They volunteered to generate publicly available materials, such as the COVID-19 therapeutic reviews on YouTube, Breakpoints COVID-19 podcast episodes, a COVID-19 monoclonal antibody toolkit, and even patient education resources. These materials have a global reach and help achieve SIDP’s vision of safe and effective antimicrobials for now and the future.

Our leaders, both past and present, have been instrumental in getting SIDP to where it is today. With the accomplishments and growth of the current members, it is exciting to see where the organization will be in the next 30 years.

For this week’s edition, we are taking a moment to recognize the SIDP Social Media Committee for their year-long contributions in supporting the 30 Years of SIDP campaign and other organization-wide communication efforts. The SIDP Social Media Committee is led by Kelli Cole (@kellidpharmd) as Chair, Anna Zhou (@Annabiotics) as Vice-Chair, Travis Jones (@tmjones6) as Past Chair, and Julie Ann Justo (@julie_justo) as Board Liaison. The committee has been tasked with publishing all associated social media posts for the 30 years of SIDP campaign, in addition to their other ongoing responsibilities.

Whether they’re summarizing breaking data, hosting a Twitter chat with world experts, or highlighting key pharmacists’ work via #SIDPMemberMondays, SIDP’s social media platforms are a wonderful resource for SIDP members, allies, and the public. This team works 24/7/365 to make sure you’re up-to-date on the latest in ID. As an example of their reach, the SIDP Twitter account, @SIDPharm, now has over 18,000 followers worldwide and the SIDP YouTube channel (produced in partnership with the SIDPEC Committee) has over 25 public videos on COVID-19 therapeutics with >155,000 views.

Follow SIDP on the platforms below to stay connected:

Our SIDP Social Media Committee is a vital contributor to SIDP’s mission to ADVANCE infectious diseases pharmacy and LEAD antimicrobial stewardship to OPTIMIZE the care of patients with infections. Please join us in giving a special thanks to this committee and its members for all of their hard work!

In celebration of 30 Years of SIDP, the Strategic Planning Committee recognizes the growth of infectious diseases (ID) pharmacy residency training programs.  While the data are imperfect, we worked with fellow pharmacy organization (ASHP) to compile a list of accredited ID residency training programs who had graduates in each respective year depicted in the graphic below.

Dating back to 1996, the first program was at the Audie Murphy Memorial VA Medical Center. The late 1990’s witnessed a small but steady growth of training programs with a consistent upward trend through the first decade of the 2000s.  From 2010-2020, the field saw a rapid expansion of training sites which now hovers around 100. Not included are fellowship program graduates or unaccredited programs (including graduates during unaccredited program years).

Please join us as we celebrate the growth of ID pharmacy residency training programs and the dedication and commitment of pharmacists to continue to foster training for new ID pharmacists while enhancing patient care in the health-care system.

In celebration of 30 Years of SIDP, the SIDP Stewardship Committee would like to recognize the growth of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Certificate Program. As highlighted in last weeks’ 30 years of SIDP digest, the Antimicrobial Stewardship Certificate Program has grown significantly over the last several years.  In this week’s digest, the Stewardship committee is highlighting the global distribution of those who have graduated from the Antimicrobial Stewardship Certificate Program.

The SIDP Antimicrobial Stewardship Certificate program was initiated in 2010 with the purpose of providing antimicrobial stewardship training to pharmacists in order to develop and implement successful antimicrobial stewardship programs.  Since the graduation of the first participant from the program in 2012, the certificate program has continued to expand worldwide.
